Emily and Jack’s wedding day, which took place at a private community along the shores of Lake Michigan, was certainly well worth the wait! With the couple making the difficult decision to postpone due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to coordinate the wedding day as we had planned, but we partnered with Tanya Noordyke to ensure the perfect day.
We did have the privilege of designing the ceremony and reception, which took inspiration from nature. Bohemian elements with a sense of whimsy encouraged guests to let their hair down and have a fantastic time, which for many was much needed following over a year of pandemic-related restrictions and solitude.
The ceremony took place in a beautiful amphitheater, which required little decor due to the natural beauty there. A simple birchbark arch with lush greenery served as the backdrop, which saw the bride entering dramatically down a stone staircase.
As guests made their way to cocktail hour, they were offered an Aperol spritz for the short walk, where appetizers waited.
One of our favorite alternative guest books is from Fete Phone, which provides a simple and stylish way for guests to leave a message for the couple, who receive the audio files to their email just a few short weeks after the wedding.
Guests were welcomed to the tented reception with a glass of champagne, which included an escort tag directing them to their tables. The long wood farmhouse tables were decorated in lush greenery runners accented with blush and burgundy blooms.
As dinner concluded and the sun began to set, Emily and Jack led their guests up to the bluff, where they danced together for the first time as husband and wife. A second bar and desserts were waiting there as well, and guests danced the night away under the stars and the soft glow of the cafe lights strung between the trees.
Take a look at this magical day, as captured by our friend Jill DeVries!
