REAL WEDDING: Mel and Justin

This blog is a very special one to write, because it’s all about my best friend’s wedding in the mountains of Colorado. It was my privilege to plan, design, and coordinate her big day, and being able to relive it through the beautiful photos of Oros Photography is such a treat.

Mel and I have known each other since our freshman year of college, so we’ve been through a lot together. When Justin proposed to her on a trip to India, I couldn’t have been happier for her. We immediately started talking about all things wedding planning. I knew it was going to be a bit of a challenge for me to plan, as the wedding would be near their home in the mountains of Colorado at the beautiful Mount Princeton Resort. But, I love a challenge almost as much as I love Mel, so we dove into planning over the next year and a half.

After many long conversations and as much preliminary planning as humanly possibly, Derrick and I set off from Grand Rapids to Denver. Boxes of decor and linens were shipped earlier that week.

It was definitely a team effort, with Mel and Justin recruiting friends to help drive flowers from the wholesaler to the resort, assist with floral assembly, and general event setup. They’ve really built a community of friends in Colorado, and these people were beyond eager to help. It was extremely advantageous that we had access to the reception space the day before the wedding to begin setting up, and the staff at Mount Princeton were beyond helpful. They even handled placing (AND IRONING!) the linens we had shipped over.

The wedding day itself was picture perfect, with beautiful weather that really highlighted the magnificent atmosphere of the resort.  The ceremony was held in a lovely wooded area, with a stream running behind the arch. Live guitarists and vocalists provided the music, while a good friend of the couple officiated.

Mel and Justin’s style is very different from my own, with lots of bohemian influences. We incorporated dream catchers, macrame, vintage rugs and furniture, as well as local wildflowers and greeneries to highlight this place that the couple call home. I truly feel we captured their spirit and personality.

After 18 months of hard work, I couldn’t have been happier with how everything turned out, but most importantly, I couldn’t have been happier for Justin and Mel. Enjoy these captures from these fantastic photos from Oros Photography!
